Who I Am

Photo Jan 21 9 29 12 AM     Who I am is a struggle faced daily. I am nobody. I am minute. I am a mom. I am a woman. Somehow those only seem insignificant  depending on your perspective, and like most of humanity, my perspective of myself changes on a daily basis. Some days I feel like my attempt to contribute to the conversation on education is irrational. Other days, I feel like great power flows through me and it needs to be shared.

I am a woman. Such a powerful sentence that through HIS-tory has been torn down to make us quiver as we say it. Only after much introspective work am I able to proudly hold that title. Being an entrepreneur in a male dominated society, I have always felt like I hold many masculine characteristics.

Being a mom has been one of the most transformational experiences of my life. It requires constant introspective work and outside learning. It was when being a woman really became a gift for me. What my body experienced changed every aspect of my life and then having the urge to take care of my daughters to the best of my ability unleashed my learning potential. Children are like sponges. They always need to know the answer to something which caused me to submerge myself in an on going whirlwind of research and the more they know, the more I needed to know. They feed my mind and curiosity constantly, and creating a world for them became my priority.Photo Jun 21 8 47 33 AM

I am minute. Feeling small and insignificant is a reoccurring feeling for me after all I don’t have a degree in education or child psychology or read billions of books on the issue. But somehow I take pride in all this because this fact has helped me to think freely of alternative ways children can learn. I am not trying to become a professor of quantum physics, although I am enthralled by the subject, lol. My desire to write and share my thoughts and perspectives comes from a place of working with my tribe. Not everyone will find my concept adequate or useful for their children, but this is meant for those to which the ideas ring true enough to assist in finding what is best for them. My purpose is to inspire people to think outside the box and help children have the tools for a health life before their life needs fixing.

And I am nobody. All of the thoughts I hold about myself hold equal validity but this one is my heart. I am nobody and I am everybody. Everybody that wished they could be heard and weren’t. Everybody that wished society wouldn’t be so infringing. Everybody that had difficulting following the plan that was given to us at birth to follow. I am not here to necessary propose anarchy of any sort. I am here to propose that we find ways to live truly free no matter what life or parents we were born into. And I am and no different that anyone who has ever thought that to be possible. I want to start the conversation, so all voices can be heard.

It is in realizing that I am no different and no better than my fellow tribe members that the power of who I am lies. I listen and hold them up to be heard. My form of contribution is to drown the noise of those who think they know better and allow for those that think with their hearts to step up and share. For all knowledge no matter how you come about it is significant. And just because something was not read in a book, it does not make it wrong.

ABOUT KAREN

Photo May 23 3 31 17 PM

In the search to offer her children an education beyond their usual surroundings, and seeking to exist outside her chronic illness, Karen Matamoros created a life of exploration. From traveling the world to diving within, resetting boundaries, curating an intentional & artistic life, and redefining what entrepreneurship while being a homeschooling single mom looks like. Her ability to create freedom within her own life has led her to offer coaching to parents that wish to create freedom in life, business and homeschooling while creating daily flow and cultivating their relationship with their children. At the core of her work, she believes in catering to the child as a whole, and thus she offers kids and teens classes that cater to the entrepreneurial spirit and to help children grow into their dreams. She has also founded Project: KAring, an alternative education portal for kids focused on the body, mind, and soul. She created this community to make free form education easily accessible to every child, through a directory, forums and scholarships. She uses her artistic expression to paint her world with intentionality, from curating each piece of her home and garden to organizing magical lived experiences. Although an entrepreneur her whole life, she started to truly live her passion when she sold her 6-figure business in 2017, and set out to travel full-time with her two daughters for many years before settling in Miami to create a cozy home for her children to grow into young women.
